What’s a Ribbon Wreath?

A ribbon wreath is simply made by tying strips of ribbon onto a wreath frame. It’s one of the fastest and easiest ways to create a festive wreath. You can customize it any way you like, using different colors and decorations to match any holiday or season.

Supplies

You’ll Need:

  • Wreath frame
  • Red, white, and blue acrylic paint and a paintbrush
  • 1.5” wide red, white, and blue ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Wooden star cutouts
  • Hot glue gun
  • Twine or wire for the hanging loop
Painting the Frame

Step 1: Paint Your Wreath

Divide your wreath into three sections and paint them red, white, and blue. This way, any gaps between the ribbons won’t show.

Tying Red Ribbons

Step 2: First Round of Ribbons

Cut your red ribbons into 14” long strips and tie them around the frame. Keep going until the red section is completely covered.

Step 3: Fill in the Gaps

Cut more red ribbons and fill in the spaces between the ones you’ve already tied. This makes the wreath look fuller.

Tying Blue and White Ribbons

Step 4: Blue and White Ribbons

Do the same with the blue and white ribbons as you did with the red. It might be a good idea to use ribbons that don’t fray, like velvet, or use some Fray Check on the edges if they start to fray.

Painting Stars

Step 5: Add Stars

Paint your wooden star cutouts white and hot glue them onto the red and blue sections of your wreath.

Hanging Loop

Step 6: Make a Hanging Loop

Thread some twine or wire through the back of your wreath and tie a loop so you can hang it up.

And there you have it! Your very own Fourth of July wreath, ready to be proudly displayed.
